I've been reefing for almost a year, my tank seems to be going well, and I turn to R2R or my local club with most of my questions. But I really need a good, solid reference to help me really understand WHY I'm doing some of the things I'm doing. Something that focuses on corals, how they do what they do, and how our tank chemistry affects them. If fish breeds are discussed I won't mind a bit, I just don't mind looking for a different fish reference.

I don't want "Reefing for Dummies", I am looking for something higher level than that but I do need something that explains from the basics on up. My chemistry and biology classes were an awfully long time ago.

@saltyfilmfolks, I think you made recommendations to someone in another thread, but I can't find it now :(

TIA all,

Cindy

Look into books about coral reef ecology and food webs. It all starts with the sun, and the rest are scavenging the remains. Sun- plants- planktons- small fish - big fish. Helped me understand lots of whats going on.

If your interested in chemistry chemical oceanography by frank millero iirc is good.

My LFS swears by this book. Managed to find it second hand on eBay. It's a great resource for coral keeping
