Need a change of substrate, any recomendations?

I have a jbj 28HQI that houses acro's and clams. I have in place now sugar sized sand for substrate and I am tired of the constant blowing of the sand all over the place by the mp10 at close to full blast on reef crest mode, then having to use the baster to blow it off everyday. I have a few sand stirring creatures that sift the sand at the moment. I would like to keep the substrate some what fine for them to be able to sift and be able to keep it in place with the current I have running. I was thinking about going with the black substrate, any draw backs with the color? I am not interested in BB at this time.

I would go with a higher micron size (Caribsea Seaflor Special Grade). This should be seeded with existing sand. There are no issues with the black color of sand if that is what you want. I don't know how natural that will look however. Personal preference. The substrate I mentioned above is what many reefers here are using (including SunnyX) and it is fine for wrasses / sand sifters - without the issues of getting caught in the water column and covering rocks...hth.
