The very same conditions algae need to grow are the same conditions corals need. The reason reefs aren’t overtaken by algae is the endless supply of herbivores. I don’t think I can say this enough times, but you can’t and never will control algae through nutrient reduction. This mindset only leads to major problems. I’m not sure why people can’t get the concept that nature has evolved/perfected over millions of years. Corals have polyps for a reason, they need nitrogen in many forms (and phosphorus), deplete them of this and they die. For those giving hard numbers for nutrients and other parameters, just stop. We’re talking about unique closed systems, not a natural reef. We need to talk ranges, not mag at 1350, Ca 420, etc
Op, get more fish, feed them and enjoy colorful coral.
