hows it going new to the site and marine aquariums I recently set up a 50 gallon tank so far I have a protine skimmer and a overflow filter along with 60 lbs of live sand and 40 lbs of live rock with 15 lbs of dead rock it's been set up a couple weeks now and from what I can tell it has already gone through its cycle. I would like to have corals and fish so my main question is, Would the filtration in my tank be sufficient for both or only good enough for fish

I used one and only to help it all my water levels spiked like I read they would and they are all almost back to normal now

The rock has begun to grow new bacteria that hasn't been there and the white dead rock is starting to get some color

I do not have a sump but It's a 65 gallon coral life super skimmer and I'm installing a 425 gph hydor pump tomorrow I've been waiting for in the mail I was thinking that one would be enough since my tank is shaped like a pentagon so if I pointed it at a angle it would circulate well but correct me if I'm wrong on that

Not sure if the picture uploaded but that was befor I put the last of the rock in

Hi and welcome to R2R. :-)

What is the lighting type?

Corals such as Xenia, Sinularia, Anathelia should be fine, but they can be invasive.

Right now it's just a normal tank light but soon I will be getting the reef edge led light

You should be fine take it slow let your biologic filtration build over time don't make the same mistake most reefers make adding fish to quick. Nice tank btw glass or acrylic

Thanks and it's glass I feel like I've been taking it pretty slow maybe a little faster then I should but everything seems to be doing well in the tank or at least the way it should be from what I have read but it's hard when you want to see the finished product

I agree that you should take it slow. It is frustrating but remember that the tank is never really 'finished' because you'll always be adding stuff.

To you question. I once regularly serviced a 75 gal reef which was softie dominated and the only filtration was a CPR Back-pak skimmer and an Eheim. The aquarium did well enough over the years but it also didn't have much in the way of fish. I think you'd be alright so long as you didn't add a lot of large fish or delicate corals but I caution you that your tank isn't fully cycled at this point.

For what its worth I had buddy who used a CPR Aquatic Aqua-Fuge PS2 Refugium on his 55 gal and had great success.
