Ok folks I have this brown stuff on my sand bed and on my rocks not all rock just some. Can anyone identify?
I doubt it could be dinos because I run 2 UV's and the parameters are not zeroed out. The parameters are below the pics of brown stuff.

ph 8.13
Temp 78.3
salinity 1.026

Phosphate 0.07 (according to Hanna)
Nitrate 25 I think. (according to salifert) hard to read these kits.

My across are also bleaching for some strange odd reason. Time for a break maybe? I hate to have e a defeatist attitude.
The tank turned 1 year on December 25, 2020.

Looks above 25. How old is the tank? Nitrates are feeding the algae.

My tank is a little older but has similar issue and nitrates . I'm dosing NoPox and doing larger water changes to get it in order.

Looks like the start of dino
Do this:
First- Check phosphates and nitrates to assure theyre not elevated.
Here is full program:
Prepare by starting with a water change and blow this stuff loose with a turkey baster and siphon up loose particles.
Turn lights off (at least white and run blue at 10-15%) for 5 days and at night dose 1ml of hydrogen peroxide per 10 gallons for all 5 nights. If you dont have light dependent coral- turn all lights off.
During the day dose 1ml of liquid bacteria (such as bacter 7) per 10 gallons.
Clean filters daily and DO NOT FEED CORAL FOODS OR ADD NOPOX as it is food for dinos.
Day 5,, you can start with blue lights - ramping up and work your white lights up slowly

so it's algae? I considered that. Brown algae of some sort. The funny thing is last week I had the nitrate down to 10 but they went back up. So I feed 1 cube of frozen a day mysis, emerald entree, brine shrimp with spirulina,
just one cube a day. I try to switch up but it's one of the 4. I also might feed flakes a few hours before the cube dinner.

I did this a few weeks ago. Nada.

What is your nitrate now? I still have nopox left. I stopped dosing nopox when they went to 10 so my nitrates would not zero

Mine is coming back from neglect. I'm around 35 or 40 I'd guess

What is funny is that I do my water changes. The only thing I can think of is snail die-off. What is even funnier is I used to have to dose nitrates because they were so low. so I will start another Nopox regiment. I want to say when the nitrates were down to 10 I don't remember as much brown stuff. I was just scared of bottoming out. I forgot to say I also dose zooplankton and phytoplankton every other day last week 12mL combined 6 mL of each. I will also slow down on that too.

Nopox can still be dosed at 10, just calls for a smaller dose.

Looks like ugly phase, too much green algae on those rocks. Don't use hydrogen preroixde like someone else said. I would look at your nutrient export, ie. refugium, algae reactor, filter sock/rollermat ect. Upgrade those and feed more heavily. Oh, and don't chase numbers.

you know what I forgot my filter socks have been in for a week lol. Maybe I need to change those. thanks for reminding me. THis is why I hate those things cause this is not the first time I have forgotten to change them.

I am going to do some research on roller mats and invest in one. Those socks could have been in there for 1.5 weeks now that I think about it. If they are not running over with water I just leave them in. THis might be bad practice lol.

ok, So i did figure out why my nitrates were sky-high at 30ppm. There was a combination of this happening here.
First off I forgot I put a sponge in the tank to get bacteria on it for my QT tank that I never setup. I put the sponge in like 6 months ago and these sponges are good for hoarding nitrates.

I also forgot to remove two mesh filter socks that have been in the sump for maybe 2.5 weeks now that I think about it.
SO everything that it caught still broke down in the tanks. The brown crap is beginning to recedes slowly. Lesson learned. I am getting a roller mat but I am doing my research on them first. I do like mechanical filtration but I simply forget about my socks so my journey continues.

And I still have not set up my QY tank, after all, that lol. I am just happy nitrates are going down. They are still high at 25 but they are not 30 anymore.
