I am in the process of setting up a 20-gl QT with an acrylic tank that I have. I am simply going to get a small rubbermaid type sump from Homedepot and run a MaxiJet return pump back to the tank. I have a pretty slick MRC acrylic tank that I want to run for a QT setup.

To that end, I need a skimmer recommendation for a tank of this size, which is obviously on the smaller side. My skimmer/filtering demands should not be that big simply because I am only going to using it to QT new fish arrivals, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciate......

I have a 20g reef and I don't use a skimmer on it. I just do a 5 g weekly water change and it is good to go. I would just do the same on the QT.

I also run a 20 gallon QT. No skimmer. Keep it simple, bare bottom, sponge filter seeded in your sump. No live rock, skimmer or sand.

Great guys thanks. I just want to check before I went crazy setting up the 20gl QT system. I had it setup before, but was tied into my sump in the beasement so it was not a trye QT system. Now I want to set up totally separate from my main system.

I was thinking a simply 10gl rubbermaid sump with filter sock and Marineland return pump and aggressive weekly water changes. The acrylic tank has a built in overflow box and a Duro standpipe that is not install in the pic attached. So it is a great tank in general and should be a nice QT tank if I keep it simple.

Thx again

It's tought to run a skimmer on a QT tank when you're medicating. It just drives the skimmer nuts depending on the medication.

Sounds good....looks like I am going skimmerless.

Appreciate all the feedback.....many thx.
