I am looking for a skimmer recommendation for heavy bioload and a water volume of 200g. I would like it to be external and a good bang for the buck. Open to any suggestions.

Try the search feature on the menu bar. We have a Jedi Master of Skimmers here named Mojo. Just type Mojo and you'll find a bunch of threads where he has reviewed skimmers and made recommendations to others. Very very very helpful threads and dude!

First question is do you want a deal, or the best skimmer possible. Some of the top shelf Octopus skimmers are by far the best bang for your buck out there. ASM makes a great skimmer for the price. I own a ASM G3. It is several years old, and still works great. I prefer the Octopus Needlewheel 200 on my other tank, because it is easier to clean, and a little larger for a little less. There are skimmers that work a little better, but they cost a lot more. Deltec, Bubbleking, and many other high end ones come to mind.

I want these best skimmer that I can get. I say best bang for the buck because I have seen people recommend skimmers based on the price, and not experience or even taking into account what the person looking for the recommendation stated, ie I am looking for an external recirc skimmer that can handle a heavy 200g bioload.

Ones I am researching specifically are the MRC 2R, Reef Octopus DNWB 200, Reef Octopus DDNW-150 Recirculating Protein Skimmer with 2 Pumps. I guess information on those skimmers would have been a better question, but would like to know what others would recomend. I like the MRC because it is upgradable, but don't know that many people who run them. I am not that familiar with Octopus brand skimmers, so I would like to know other options.

I have have searched for Mojo's recommendations, but I have not found this questioned asked. I have seen several different recommendations as well. Seems like he likes the skimmers with sicce pumps, and the brand of the skimmer does not seem to influence his choices too much-- meaning that he has alot of experience (show with with posts), knows what to look for and takes into account what the original question is.

Now BK are highly recommended and I have seen them in action and would love to get one-- once i research other options and determine what is an option and what will work. I also know someone with a Deltec. He loves it, but is selling it, and changed pumps to a cone skimmer-- so I am not sure as to how much he loved it.

I currently use a EuroReef model (not sure what model it is) on my 40br, and would recomend it in the right situation (depends on the person's setup of course).

All of the cones are hot right now I havnt used one personally but they come VERY highly recommended

I have an MXS-250 though it is internal.

I wanted an internal over an external so if
it over flows I don't have a mess to clean up.

the hurricone cat1 internat with the askoll pump is what i have....it is by far the best skimmer i have ever had!!! i would recomend this to anyone who can spend the little extra for it. the gunk it pulls out is amazing. the skimmer is the backbone of the aquarium and found the hard way not to go cheap with it!

Probably one of the best external skimmers out are going to be the newest deltecs. This is there forte' They have been making externals for a long time. The ATB deluxe external 1050 would also be a great choice but again these will be in the same price range as the deltec.

Now if you want to save some money and still get some great performance. You may consider the new super reef octos

This is the one I was thinking of
Reef Specialty

Make sure when you start pushing system volume you get a skimmer with a pump that can not only pull air but cycles enough water to get you a good turnover rate through your skimmer. I think these three would be my top choices when it comes to recirc skimmers.

Mojo~

the cat 2 external would be a pretty good skimmer as well.

I love my AquaC EV-240... it does a great job and pulls out super stanky skimmate.
They are not bad, power hungry and not the most quiet skimmer out there. Good built quality and at one time were one of the best out there. They do move a good amount of water for larger tanks but some of these newer designs would be a better choice if they have the room.
