Yes - but IMO - in most case silicates in the Tap/RoDi water is of no concern. A normal level of silicon in a reef aquaria is around 0.1 - 0.2 ppm. The blom of diatoms is normal when PO4 is low and normal green algae can compete. The diatoms is masters in low PO4 concentrations. Check your PO4 with a Hanna Checker. I prefer the low phosphate - not the ultra low phosphorus meter.

If I run into problems like this - I normally stop all additives (except calcium, alkalinity and magnesium -> that means 2 part, balling, reactors and similar things)

Well 20% water change today. I syphoned out as much cyano and diatoms as I could. I have barely any sand left. Good news is that after dosing no3, I'm getting a low reading now of .10. I think raising it to 2 or 3 would benefit my tank. I already see an improvement in some colors.
Anyways, we will see what happens in a week or so....

Well now after siphoning all of the cyano out seems to be holding off. I still see a light amount of diatoms on what sand was left. My no3 sits at .25 now. And checking both red sea and hanna tests, po4 sits at 0.00. Should I continue to dose no3 and po4? Also as you can see, the glass gets algae film on it, like this within 24 to 48hrs.
