Need advice on a new Tank and Accessories

Nice find ^^^ if you get it i would contact red sea directly and order a complete new set of all the o-rings for the plumbing. That way you can be confident it wont leak once reassembled. I love my reefer by the way. A sump is a must in my opinion... who wants equipment hanging off the back of the tank...

Do you think it would be a good deal even with scratches? Are there any fixes for the scratching that you know of?

Sounds like a good deal. Only way to find out is to take a drive and go see in person...

Here are some updated pictures i received. Any thoughts?

Yikes. Looks pretty bad actually. Not sure if id want to be staring at all those scratches. But thats a personal opinion.

If it comes with a light, I would JUMP on it!! The sump upgrade is around $300

It's a Reefer with no light but stll good price!!

So I think I have narrowed my list down to two tanks.

RSR 170

- 24.5 x 20 x 20
- 43.0 total volume
- 34 display volume
- Starphire glass
-$999 + $240 = $1240 for an AI Prime or Deluxe with Reef LED is $1399

or

Waterbox 45.2

- 24 x 18 x 18
- 44.3 total volume
- 29.6 display volume
- Starphire glass
- $1199 for the plus edition that includes an AI Prime

I have seen a stocked 170 in person, and I really just like the look and think that it would be the perfect size for me right now. If i went AI Prime the cost difference would be about 40 - 50 dollars more for the RSR 170. Does anyone out there have any experience with either, or have an opinion on what would be the better system? I had looked at the SCA 50 as well, but just not sure from what I have read if the build and glass quality is comparable to the RSR or Waterbox.

I would make separate thread just on this subject.
Maybe more people would see it and respond.

Wanted to hear everyone's thoughts on my current situation. I posted the pics of the used 170 in this thread, that has some scuffs/scratches. I found out some more info about the tank. The scratches are on the inside of the tank, and the seller did say that if you ran a fingernail across the scratches you can feel them. Price was dropped from $450 to $300, and have been told its mine if i want it.

1 - Can the scratches be repaired, or at least fixed enough to be barely visible?

2 - If so and if i did not do DIY, is this something that can be done by an expert?

3 - Or should i pass altogether?

I would really hate to pass up a deal like this for something that could be repaired fully, or repaired enough to where it would be worth having.

Im no expert but if your looking for a scratch free tank i would pass. I dont think your fixing it very easily. If its something you can live with then its certainly going to save you money you can put else where...

Currently waiting to hear back on a deal for a 170 through FB marketplace. It is located at a LFS a little over an hour away. They have offered it to me for $300, original list price was $475. The only problem is they said it has some "scratches" probably due to magnet cleaning. I have asked for more detailed pictures, but waiting to hear back. Here is the pictures from the listing, but you can't really much detail.

Welcome to R2R. Aquatica and Nemo's reef are really good LFS that you can get advice from. And $300 for a Reefer 170 is a really good deal. Just make sure there are no chips/cracks.

Make sure that the tank is structurally good, if it is structurally good, then it's a really good deal. If you are planning to grow corals, then Coralline algae will cover up the back of the tank. But until that happens, these scratches will be visible. If you are not happy with the scratches or contemplating only because of that, it would be better for you to get a brand new tank :) :):) Also, you need to enjoy your tank. You can go and have a look at the tank in person. If the scratches annoy you, it's better to get a new tank.

Nemo's is my LFS and is less than 5 miles from me. I will check with them to see their thoughts. I should be going there at some point this weekend to get water for my current tank.
