The lid on my 46gal bowfront has a missing section at the back that I would like to fill in (32" x 5"). I know I can buy plexi glass and cut it to size, but i also need it to go around my inlet/outlet hoses and wires from the powerhead/heater which all runs up+out the back. Ive also considered buying some sort of aquarium-safe foam board that I can cut to size and then cut out the sections where the hoses go. I cant use aquarium netting to cover it either, unfortunately. I have three cats that shed TONS of hair, so I'm not able to leave any part of the aquarium uncovered, (currently i have a few pieces of cardboard covering up the back so hair/dust doesnt get in). Any advice on what to cover the back/top of the tank with is very much appreciated!

What you will need to do is mark the cutouts then use a router with a guide to route your openings

Egg crate or mesh would be another option. More air flow for gas exchange
