So, I had a wet dry sump with bio balls. I know I know not the best set up but it came with the tank. Any way today I noticed water leaking out of the top where the water drains into the sump

So I took out the wet dry part and plumbed it like a regular sump. I then used eggcrate to section off part of the sump to put my bio balls (about half) back into the tank because I have very little live rock due to the size of my tank, and also because now the micro bubbles are crazy. Is this the best way to keep my tank from starting a new cycle? My tank had only been running for 5 weeks. I plan on slowly taking the bio balls out and replacing with live rock. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

cool tank!. I would try and look into seachems matrix i run a 100g total system with like 20 pounds of LR. all the rest is the matrix in a drip filter like yours. Replace you bio balls with matrix is what i would do. 5 weeks i wouldnt worry to much it. add the matrix and after a week or two take some bio balls out then add more matrix. repeat unitill the bio balls ar gone. The stuff does wonders for bio filtration.

I was thinking of using matrix but I was going to add it to a reactor so that I could use the room in my sump to add a fuge. Would that work the same way?

Ricky,

Also will I damage my heater if I submerge it into the bio balls which are currently under the water line if you couldn't tell. That is the only Chamber it will fit into.

Ricky,

It would work better in a reactor so that's a good idea. About the heater as long as the heater is hearing up the water it will be fine.
