I have been running chemipure forever. i recently started adding a little bit of GFO as i see algae after learning about gfo not lasting as carbon in the chemipure. its not crazy or test confirms not zeros but i thought it could be lower. I added 1/4 cup in the filter sock so they would not come out of socks (well, they were all over out of bags, i mean everywhere including the tank. i also felt rinsing would loose half of GFO...-feel the same way with chemipure but less mess). now i am adding another tank to the same sump (50 gallon frag) and have been reading about reactors. I never felt i needed one as my system has been great, growing acros etc. i run a low nutrient system from brightwell Biofuel and macrobacter by dosing. i have 90 dt, 25 frag. 30 sump (plus a little tiny dwarf seahorse tank).
Questions are. it seems like everyone is using carbon/gfo reactors. do i need them even if i run chemipure? if i run reactors, do i still need chemiclean? how much carbon or Gfo do i need? i am lazy and dont test often. i havent tested for 6 months i think. can i just use chemipure and then use reactors to supplement gfo just like i do now?
