I have worms in a couple of my tanks, spread very fast in one of my small tanks, showed up recently in one of my main tanks. I want to get a handle on them before they spread like wildfire in the larger tank. My best guess is they are a type of cirratulus cirratus.
They mostly bury in sand or hide in tiny holes in the rock, showing only these super thin, sometimes quite long hairs (½"-3"). The hairs do not appear to sting, or even grab food, from what i found, (if indeed cirratulus cirratus, they are their gills)
Looking for a fish or crab that may eat them. I've tried an arrow crab in one tank with no luck, also pepp shrimp have been tried, the larger tank they are starting in already has a pair of coral banded shrimp, (they aren't interested in them either). I have have a marble wrasse in QT now to be tried soon.
Looking for advise on fish, (or crabs) that will aggressivly eat many types of worms. I say aggressive, because it will be tough for them to be pulled from their homes/holes. With them in such tight spots i doubt a type of mini long nose puffer would work.
I can, and do, grab larger ones in the sand, easy to dig/fluff out, but when they are in rocks, i can't get ahold of them, the strings i get ahold of just break, and the rest suck into the hole.
Hard to spot in pic, but there are alot shown. Right in the middle is easiest to see, along rock base are more, near shell is another larger one. Once you see them, you can see many little hairs all over in that pic.
I'm sure they are benificial, they just spread too fast, and i don't like the look of hairs all over my rocks.
