Started a new build earlier in the summer and have thoroughly enjoyed it as well as learned a lot along the way. I work a lot so the actual assembly has taken more time than it probably should. So I'm completing the final assembly of my reef and unbox my protein skimmer to place in the sump as part of my leak test in late August only to discover an important part was missing from the box. I contact the company who sold it to me and 10 days later I receive the part. I completed assembly of the skimmer, put it in the sump added tap water to the tank and sump for my leak test, and to my disappointment I cannot get the pump on the skimmer to work for more than a couple of minutes. Now I'm back in the waiting game sitting here with a tank that's ready to cycle, but I'd rather not start until I have a fully functional skimmer. The vendor, supplier and manufacturer of the skimmer have generally been highly responsive, but I have heard nothing on the "when my new pump will be shipped". I originally purchased the skimmer on August 28 and it's been a month on a nearly $400 purchase.

I enjoy reefing immensely because it brings me solitude to an otherwise aggressive, hectic lifestyle I have with work. Do you think I've been patient enough? I'm ready to send the skimmer back and get a different one. Actually I'm hotter than a fire cracker, but trying as hard as I can to keep my composure cause this if fun and enjoyable...right?

I think you've been more than patient. That is quite a long time imo. I'd probably contact them and tell them you're ready to send it back unless you get a date.

On another note, you can start cycling your tank without a skimmer, many people recommend not to run a skimmer while you cycle anyway. Just a thought.

Thanks for your thoughts! I understand I can, and probably should, start my cycle without the skimmer, but with my personality traits I want to route the wiring just so (working in a tight under cabinet) and ensure I'm happy before I load up with LR, LS and saltwater... hope you have a fabulous weekend!
