Need algae help

My tank was started in July of 2014 with all dry rock. It seemed to cycle fine and my rocks began slowly turning brown which I thought was just part of the process. They are now mostly covered as well as what I thought were diatoms on the sand bed. Is this normal process for dry rock or do I have a problem? I do have a couple spots of coralline beginning, and looks like some other traces of burgundy or purple beginning through the rocks that do not show in pics. Any advise would be appreciated

Thanks, is there any timeline or will it eventually just be covered by corralline?

The time line is depend on how many corals and fish you will add in and the period of time to do it and ofcource the quality of ur water,,,,,
patience is better for u cause of the dry rock,add one or tow and wait for ur tank to solves or settle (give it 2 to 3 weeks)..

That's what makes me think its not just regular diatoms because its been this color/coverage for nearly two months now. I'm also running GFO/carbon, which did not seem to make a difference on the rocks.

In my case my tank is 8 months and am still have some,i dont care couse when they finished what they are there for will disappears,,and its a good food sourse for tangs and surgen fish

Yeah. I've been patient with it. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't allowing something bad to grow out of control. Nothing really comes free with blowing them off, just other detritus.

Nothing will happend couse its not a fish wast,your skimmer will handle it

How long have you been running GFO? Over light whites or over feed? I have always been plagued with algae(3 years). GFO is droppin' it like its hot, barely noticeable 7 weeks in a reactor.

Do your 10% wc and don't over light or over feed.
