1+ Is your tank empty? Maybe its a starving urchin that's on deaths door and lost all its spines?

The black back part is soft and smooth. I thought it was a sponge on the rock at first.
send a PM to marine maniac over at crazy ricks forum. He can then pass it along to one of their guys whos an expert on urchins.

Sadly enough I found out what is....the central disc of my big brittle star. I hope he makes it. I don't know if it was stressed being in the tub for 2 weeks or predation by someone in there with him. Seeing as he was in with most everything he has been around, I lean more towards stress.
