so while making sure all is well for a 7 day vacation tomorrow, i noticed overnight my ato dumped 2 gallons into my tank. my tank is about 100 total volume 100dt,31sump. its an absurd amount to possibly evaporate (i think).

overnights i do a 2 gallon water change through the neptune DOS. i know the awc is happening because my reservoirs are going down and my waste water is going up... could the in/out of the AWC be messing with the osmolator to trigger it too often overnight? the water levels in my tank are where they should be so between the 3 variables things are where they should be but salinity goes down ever so slightly. my NSW is 1.026/7 my tank creeps downwards to 1.024/5

i finally put 2 and 2 together.. anyway.

tl;dr
should this script below keep my ato off during the time my AWC are happening (midnight to 6am)? i used the lighting tab to get the time programed...can i delete line 4 and 5 too?

Rule #1 to vacationing with Apex.. Never make any last minute changes!!

  • I'd recommend your fallback be OFF, unless there are float swithes involved that would stop the pump from running.
  • Temp control isn't needed for an ATO.
  • You can delete line 6; however, that just stops your ATO from running when your source container is low.
  • You can delete line 5; however, that forces the ATO to run for a minimum of 1 min. This is good to stop it from cycling on and off a bunch. You can certainly reduce it to 30 seconds or so.
The script should work for what you intend (keeping the ATO off from midnight to 6am).

Do you have your AWC via the DOS running at the same time? i.e. it removes water at the same time it replaces it? If not, that could cause your ATO to dump in a bunch of water.

If it were me, I'd stop AWC and put the ATO on some basic programming this close to me leaving for vacation. Tank won't be bothered by a delayed WC :)

Enjoy the vacation!

so i used to have the AWC from midnight to 6am, and the ato (tunze osmolator) set to always on. i noticed my ato res was depleting way too quickly which is why i am trying to setup the script to run them on "opposite" cycles. AWC on from 0000-0600 and then the ATO from 0600-2359 . you may be right about not messing with rule number one and just turning awc off for the week.

if i turn off awc (alk about 8.3, 2 gallons a night) should i also turn of my 2 part doser? will leaving it off cause alk to drop too much, will leaving it on cause too much alk?

Depending what your daily use is. I would leave it on especially if it has been stable.

You might see a slight drop in alk juat from stopping the awc given it brings in likely more alk rich water. Shouldn't be much though.

so i came home to alk stable (3 days of testing since) at 7.4, i'd like it a little higher but man o man, they say best thing to do is not tinker with a tank and a week later alot of sps look great with new growth LOL.

did a 15% wc and resumed daily water changes, nitrates are higher than i would like since i left for vacation.
