Need Apex or Not ?

I like the idea of having a controller for certain aspects, so it looks like I'll look further into the seller in my heading, or keep my eyes open for another great deal. I'm home most of the time and visually check the tanks a lot, so it would be a good baby sitter. I don't need anything like a smart phone to monitor the specs, because I don't have one anyway.

Now I need to find out which apex best suits my needs. I do have a problem with determining colors on test kits, like PH etc. So a digital read out or my home computer would help a lot. But, the ones from Hanna sounds great and are pretty inexpensive. So which will be better for monitoring and cost ?

Below is a quote from the apex Jr seller I listed in my first post above.

What do you think about what he has, price and for what I want to monitor ?
I like the idea on having the display module incase something goes wrong with my home computer, at least I can monitor the tank with the apex display.

Thanks.

"I bought this Apex Jr. to use on my QT/Hospital tank and have since moved the QT under my display tank so I can now use my Apex Lite to control it in addition to my display tank. I am going to be using the display module from the Apex Jr for my Apex Lite so I'm selling this without the display module. The Apex Jr. was removed from the box and tested on my tank for one day to control the heater and light and confirm functionality.

For clarification the Apex Jr is fully usable and configurable (via PC once connected to the home network) and was once sold this way by Neptune but they've since changed it to only selling the Apex Jr. with a display for $240. If you would like a controller without the need for the display then this will save you some money.

Asking $160 shipped"

Here's a used one for the Digital Aquatics.

"Digital Aquatics Reef Keeper LITE, SL1, PC4, PH Probe, Temp Probe, Float Switch, Cables, & Complete system.
$199.... This system is amazing. The only reason I am selling it is because my brother gave me his Apex controller. Free is good. The RKL controller is much easier to program and control then the Apex. That's for sure. It also does everything the apex can do. I had it controlling my calcium reactor, auto top off, heater & chiller, With much more usability i never taped into. My water parameters have never been more precise as they were while using this system. I only used this for about 45 day.

I decided to also sell my brand new ORP probe from reef fantastic. $35 - free shipping
I also am selling the RL-SL2. Never used. $75 - free shipping.

If you want the complete system I will let it go for $299 - free shipping.

I am also including in one PH 10 and one PH 7 calibration fluid packs. You can have your system calibrated as soon as you get it.

You will pay over $350 or more for everything included"

You definitely need some kind of controller! I say this because in the last 2 months 2 people in my club WRS had their heater burst & 1 that stuck on & killed all their corals & fish! It's like playing Russian Roulette, nothing migjt happen & them again if you are in this hobby long enough it probably will! Peace of mind not to mention the life if your inhabitants is worth every penny you put into WHATEVER controller! Use your 20/20 NOW!

I ran tanks for 30 years before controllers were ever invented, all they are is fancy toys. That said o use apex
