Looking for some advice on how I can fix my aquascape with the rock i have. I really dislike it. I should of put more thought into the shape but being new I was eager to hey tree tank going as soon as I got everything. Anyway, it's a fluval evo 13.5. Let me know your guys ideas.

Pretty limited with just 4 pieces. Consider stacking the left two in the first pic, leave the other two as is and space the 3 structures out a bit. Or stack the 3 big ones into a cave or pile and leave the smaller one as an island.

I would suggest moving the rock work away from the glass and center it more. This would allow your pumps to push water more freely through the tank.

I would start breaking up 3/4 of the rock into smaller pieces. In smaller thanks, the bigger pieces of rock make the tank look smaller than it is. This will also give you more to play with.

and how would you break them? cause I have 3 rocks about the same size as those and one skeleton coral for the same tank and I already broke them down to be that small but a lot of chunks fall off that you don’t get back

I'd sure like to know. Really. Im still trying to figure out what I want to do.

I normally just use a screwdriver and a hammer.

The chunks of rubble rock that falls off can be used for mounting new frags instead of using frag plugs. Not only looks way better, basically free too.

Rubble rock can also be glued together to make larger more interesting structures. Or just placed along where the sand bed meets the bottom of the rocks.

I Totally appreciate the costs involved with this hobby but the landscape is the foundation - had you considered buying a couple of different pieces I.e. branches?

tell me why didn’t I think of this I just threw them away what a rookie :(

I bought a small concrete chisel and a hammer to break up my bigger pieces.

most of my archways and ledges were made from 3-5 of the chipped off pieces

is there a particular landscape style you like ?

Arches , bonsai , islands etc

Well the main thing im worried about is I have coral in the tank and coraline algae is just starting to come in pretty good. How long can the rock be out of the water before stuff starts dying on it?

first things first - what do you have to glue rocks together ?

for arches I would recommend the moldable plastic stuff like Aquaweld

as for how to do arches , it’s honestly a lot of Little Rock’s glued to make the shape

Both of these are 2-3 rocks

so should I Break my rocks more then they are?

if you want an arch - yes

or purchase some of the ready made arches if you want to avoid the work

You could fill a spray bottle with tank water and just periodically spritz the rock while you’re working on it to keep it alive

I broke up my rocks to make arches, epoxy or plain cement worked well for me, super glue gel for the rubble pieces that added some texture and places to mount corals. Make sure to leave holes so it’s easy to put frags there later! Definitely keep spraying the rocks with tank water so you don’t have to cycle the rock again, that’s a real pain. You can also use PLASTIC screws to screw pieces together if you’ve got holes that fit, PLASTIC zip ties are also really good for doing this type of stuff. I stress the plastic because metal will rust and foul your tank :(. Good luck! Super glue GEL is your friend here and readily available by the 3 pack at the dollar store. Make something interesting!
