I need suggestions for a controllable wavemaker for my 16 gallon BioCube. I have been looking at the following

IceCap Gyre 1K (max 1000gph)
Reef Octopus OctoPulse 2 (max 1,600gph)
Tunze Nanostream 6055 (250-1450gph)

I currently use a Hydor Koralia Nano 425. It’s good but it’s just always on at the 425gph and I really want something that pulses and is adjustable gph.
I don’t mind spending money, I just don’t want to waste any just to figure out which is best for my size tank.

Please help me decide!

Of the three only have experience with the tunze. And only recently but have stellar reviews. Very quiet compared to my prior wavemakers.

I'm in the same boat as you, I have an old school 14g Biocube. After tons of research I'm either going with the Jebao SLW-10 or the ReefBreeders RP-M. Both are less than 150 bucks and are more than enough flow for the tank with a quality controller, many modes, and IMO the most important in a tank this small, LOW PROFILE.

I have not used one yet but a tunze turbelle nanostream 6040 has a ton of potential due to it's shape.

But I am a big tunze user for powerheads and really like them.

Aren't Tunze's a little large inside the tank for a nano cube? IDK, every time I see them I feel like they take up a TON of room.

This has a diff shape from the traditional ones. Google it fast to see what I mean.

And I will be frank... I dont mind powerheads up high in the corners. As time goes on I do not even notice them. Yet mp40s on the sides are just silly to me. So each person has to decide.

I hear Aqua Illumination is releasing a smaller version of their Nero pump. I haven't heard anything about it but might be worth looking into. Assuming this will be targeted towards nano thanks.

As an alternative and cheaper option, look into adding a random flow generator on your return line(s). I'm using the Innovative Marine Spin Streams and absolutely love them. They were CRAZY loud during their break in period though - about a month.

OMG! You’ve given me more to consider. I love the idea of the Reef Breeders RP-M. It looks amazing. How did I not see this?! I like how slim it is and how programmable it is

For whatever reason, I hate the shape of this one. It bothers me. Haha!

Tunze 6040 is what you are after. The others will be way too big and too direct of flow. You can mostly hide it behind rocks and just have the top peek out.

Yup. Watch a couple YouTube videos of it. That one pump in the back can do it all it appears. And u dont have to worry about replacing it 2 years from now. It will probably last several years of constant use.

For my biocube 16 I've got an aqamai kps and put one of those random flow generators on the return. It has a
pretty nice effect.

I believe the Aqamai requires WiFi. I’m not allowed to connect equipment to the districts WiFi. Please tell me about this random flow generator? What is that and where do I get one?

Random flow
Does the kps need wifi. I thought the disk thing that comes with it sends out a wifi signal that you connect the phone too? Idk I could be wrong I'm not a technical kind of guy.

You are correct, I was wrong.

I have decided to go with the Tunze Nanostream 6040. I did watch some videos and I think it is exactly what I need. Thank you!

So I ended up getting the Icecap Gyre 1K. The full length gyre was too much for my aquarium, especially since my mushrooms were directly across from the left side of the gyre. So far I have it set to a random pattern with a max flow rate of 20%. My clowns immediately took to it and began swimming in the current. Since I’ve had them they have pretty much stayed to the back of the aquarium. I don’t think they liked the constant flow of the Hydor Koralia. The frogspawn and GSP love the flow. I think I made the right choice. I will eventually get another one and the new IceCap dual WiFi controller when it is released in January.

For my biocube 29 I run a mp10 on 100% reef crest and a gyre 1k on 90-100% on a few different modes throughout the day along with a hydor 425gph. Lots of flow lol
