Look to transition my 75g to a reef tank. Currently has all hob equipment no sump

Looking at adding hob overflow box and sump so i can grow corals with more success. Not interested in drilling tank

The 2 overflow and return pump options im stuck between are rated for 600gph and 800gph respectively

Im not familiar with how many gph should be flowing thru my sump. Heard slower is better? What do you recommend going with? 600 or 800? 1000?

Any of those options would probably work, but I always like to err on the side of caution, and buy bigger than needed. I like having some wiggle room and an extra layer of protection. If setup properly, you can still run only 600gph (or less) through the 1000gph overflow. It just gives you more flexibility.

i was planning on going bigger until i was reading its better to have a slower turnover so now im not sure what direction to go

does that make a difference in regards to which corals you can keep? Or is that mostly the flow within the tank

Turnover in the tank and sump will be quite different. The flow going thru the sump will likely be pretty slow, like 5x/hour. Your corals will not really be affected by this flow. The powerheads in your tank will provide the majority of the flow within the DT.
