Hello. .. I am new to saltwater aquaria and need some help identifying algae on dry rock. My tank has been cycled for 2 months now and I have had it set up for 4 months. I recently within the last 7 days purchased a radion light and set it to 40% intensity.

My parameters are
pH 8.2
SG 1.026
Ammonia 0
Nitrate 0
Nitrate 10 ppm

Currently have phosphate, alkalinity, calcium and magnesium test kits enroute.

Within the last few days I have what appear but unsure what look to be diatoms. Can someone please verify what this particular algae would be and if I need to take steps to rid the tank of it? The algae is only on my rock and not on sand or substrate. Is it possible that it is coraline algae? Also, I tried blowing it off the rock with a turkey baster and it would not separate from the rock.

Thank you

Agreed. Normal new tank Diatoms, will go away by themselves, no worries.

No reason to kill the lights until they are gone, they are feeding off the silicates in the tank right now, not the light.
