Hello I recived two clownfish as a gift and they will be coming in in two days I do have a dt tank that I’m still working on but I have a qt 15 gallon tank that has a heater and a bio wheel. I seeded the qt tank with bacteria from a cycled tank ( not much it was from a 2 gallon tank) I then added live sand and turned the temperature to 75 I added the ammonia drops to feed the bacteria but I’m scared that when I add the two clown fish the bio load won’t be able to keep up what do I do?
can I use primer or something else?

If the qt is a new startup and you just added ammonia drops it will likely not be cycled. Have you checked ammonia and nitrite?
I’d cancel the fish order and if you can’t, take them to your local fish store and try to get store credit for them. If the tanks not cycled, they will die a slow death from the ammonia.

Is there no way I can just do water changes everyday or anything?

I’m getting 0 nitrite it’s been two days since adding but 8 ppm of ammonia

Go out to your local shop and find a bottle of Fritz TurboStart 900. It’ll instantly cycle the aquarium. The ammonia you added will be consumed and you’ll be able to add your fish. That’s what I would do if I was up against a wall like yourself.

No way the tank will cycle in time, especially at 8ppm ammonia and no nitrite. Your fish will be dead in under 24 hours. Water changes will do nothing. You’ll essentially be hitting the reset button on your cycle every time you change the water.

You can try BioSpira for overnight cycling. If you can’t get it local you should be able to get it through Amazon prime in time

Should I flush the water first then add turbo start

You can do water changes if you notice ammonia. I would get bacteria in a bottle too to add.

couldn't he just use a bacteria to seed the tank like API quick start, or Dr. Tim’s. I just did that with a Fu Manchu Lion Fish.

could I get a second tank and keep them in there or keep them in 5 gallons bucks for a little till the biospira works

Yes.
I’m just concerned that since his ammonia is at 8 ppm, it won’t be enough time to get his level down before his fish arrive Friday. That is a lot of ammonia. When adding bottled bacteria you typically want your levels no more that 2-4 ppm to work effectively.

Dose bacteria, there are like a million brands to choose from.

You can maybe add prime but can’t rely on it. You also can’t dose prime if you’re running copper in your qt.

Just go buy bacteria, that’s the best place to start.

Id do a 100% wc
Pick up a seachem ammonia badge if mit already

Another bottle of bacteria
Make another 10-15 gallons of water.
And a bottle of prime.
If you lfs has live rock of any kind(the stuff they make and call live rock buy a small piece). Add that to the qt.

get ready to twice a day check ammonia levels, and add prime and do water changes. Follow the directions to reduce ammonia not dechlorinate.

Emergency qts can work, but they are a lot of work. Having water already made is the key. As well as being home.

Definitely won’t and that might even prevent the nitrite bacteria from operating effectively. 8ppm is a pretty gnarly ammonia level, not sure how op even got it to that point. I’d do a 80% wc, then dose a full 1oz bottle of fritz, he’ll be adding his fish to very toxic ammonia levels with anything less.

If you know someone who has a large tank you can try seeing if they will give you a decent amount of live rock/ sand from there tank as well as 15 gallons of water that way everything in the tank has they bacteria. That is the only way id try it and I still think there is a risk.

Keep a couple bottles of BIOSPIRA on hand and prepare fresh batches of new saltwater to control ammonia. You may need to conduct 50% water changes daily or every other day for the first couple weeks.
