Need Help - 80G Deep Blue Rimless Frag Tank

True but I don't want to spend all that additional to order a custom tank. 250$ for the tank and a starboard counter top 150$ a good custom would be 2x that if not more. Trying to keep the cost down but it's not looking that way. Shame over a 1/2".

Maybe just look for a different, non custom, tank? I made this mistake building my first stand, always get your tank before you build.

Hear ya that's what I am thinking. I had the stand before and love it and would never have a wood stand again. I'll see what the LFS says and go from there.

I think they do free delivery to their shipping routes. Call them and see if the have a shipping stop near you

I would buy a sheet of 3/4" plywood and cut it to 48.5"x24.5" and paint it black. Just lay it on top of the stand. You can putty the raw edges so it looks smooth after paint is applied.

And even router it. They make hardwood plywood in cherry, maple, etc.

A counter top is the direction I am thinking. Since I am in Florida and around boats and all I'm thinking a 1/2" 54.5" x 27" rounded corner black starboard. It's super strong and really no DIY. Plus it will match the backing of the stand. Pretty cheap.

Plus this will give me a 3" shelf on each side.

Thank you... I have a bad taste for wood after my last stand especially after I switched to a stand made out of 80/20. The Starboard is around 150 plus I can get the shelf out of it.

Plus this is all for a display frag tank so modern industrial is a bit of the look. The hard part will be when the tank is up and running building a custom frag rack!!! Want something really different and sick.

I'm not sure if it will be an issue or not. You are only talking 3/16" on all four sides so the glass would technically be supported. Could you purchase a piece of metal or wood to place on top of your stand that's 48 3/8x24 3/8? I would hate for you to have a failure on a brand new tank.

A buddy of mine had the same issue. What he did was take a piece of Granite like material and cut almost like a little Shelf and put padding under the tank. It turned out super cool and really complimented the decor in his house

Just an fyi. The important thing about the stand is that it supports the tank, the glass itself. So if the moulding sticks off the stand a tiny bit there should be no comprise in the tank. I think structurally you'll be fine it's just aesthetically it will be off a bit. Just my 2 cents worth.

Hey guys, thank you for your response. Just wanted to update this a little as the direction I went. I ordered a 3/4" Black King Starboard measuring 50.5" x 25.5" with 3/16" routed edges on top and bottom edge on all 4 sides from BoatOutfitters.com. Its +1" on all 3 sides so a little lip and some wiggle room. Since I am in FL its close and quick. I will post on how it turns out.

Hey guys just wanted to update a bit... I got the starboard and it's AWESOME!!! Was nervous on 1/2" vs 3/4" but glad I went with 3/4"... Tank is being picked up today.
