My tank was doing perfect in my 90 gallon with 30 gallon sump . My dad went to the keys and brought me back some fish and a live rock the live rock was with 3 good sized cowfish and lobster that all died and I put the rock in the tank thinking it be fine the next day my whole tank is super cloudy! And can barely see I just did a big water change and water tested ammonia looks barely over 0 if that. Nitrite is at least 5.0 ppm off the charts and nitrates at least 40 ppm and that test was after about a 35 gallon water change what should I do I'm not aure anythings alive I found some alive am some dead what I can see please help!

My opinion would be to remove the rock and get yourself ready for another water change. Ive always been one to say that water changes can make miracles. Also If you have any prime that would be great to add to help make the nitrites and ammonia not as toxic. Once the rock is gone and you've done a water change id make sure to do small water changes weekly or even biweekly until it is back to good health. P.S. I know I stress water changes but make sure you do them in good time and not extreme amounts changing chemistry of you tank drastically can prove to be more of a killer than high nitrates and ammonia.

It seems to me .. You just recycled your tank by adding the new rock. GET RID OF THE NEW ROCK

Should I try and take water from the tank and add some new water to a 10 gallon to make a hospital tank or what?

Is there anything still alive (corals, fish, etc...)?

Yeah I have about 5 fish alive alot missing I put them in the sump for now to keep track but I know it's the same water and I had no corals

This is honestly a tough question, some might argue to transfer to qt tank until display is fixed but the stress from the tank already and the transfer might not help the situation and could cause more deaths. I believe since you did a water change and removed the rock that your on the right track. I would test 2mrw to see how everything is after everything has settled back to normal after the water change, if everything is still high mix for about a 5% water change and follow through the following day with the 5%. I would continue the 5% changes about ever 3-4 days being careful to match salinity and temp to also help reduce stress. At this rate the tank will be back on a good track with few to no casualties.

When rock is removed from water ie: for transport, it has lots of die off and really shoul be cured before it goes directly in to the tank. Even if the rock was totally submerged for tranport is has die off due to lack of nutrients and circulation in the transport container (not sure how yours was transported). One other thing that I see is that all the cowfish died in transit? When cowfish die they release ostracitoxin that can kill everything off on the rock they were shipped with, if they were shipped together in the same container.

You've removed the rock already so try letting it cure. I, personally, just to be on the safe side, would add fresh carbon just in case there was ostracitoxin that was taken up by the rock that leached out. Let it run for 24 hours and change it out.

I have a banded bamboo cat shark egg been waiting to hatch do you think he will make it since he is kind of confined even though he still breathes it in?
