Over the weekend I started a new 29g tank. After adding some base rock, sand and equipment, I added a piece of shrimp and some live rock. I also decided to try out my new AC 70 fuge mod. I put it together over the weekend with DAP Dynaflex 230. After setting it up and letting it run about an hour, something in me decided to take it off and make sure the DAP product I used was aquarium safe. To my surprise, its not safe to use, and now I am not quite sure how much damage i may have done to my new reef tank. Does anyone have any idea? Should I start over or am I ok?

It was dry. The cure time on the bottle said 7-14 days, but the cure time online after looking it up says 24 hours. It was dried completely clear.

I would feel better about it if it was 100 percent silicone but latex is water based so if you gave it 24 hours you should be fine. I use aquarium silicone now but when I first started it was very hard to find 20 years ago so I used other types of caulk with no problem.

My concern is the mildewcide. Although it does not say it is mildew resistant on the bottle, online it does. i know i only introduced it to my tank for less than an hour, but I didn't know if that was even too much to prevent any beneficial growth and potential fish kill off.

I would be very doubtful that it wall cause long term damage, you did not have it in there very long and there was not much of the product used. These products typically cause damage in the long run, when they are used to build sumps or tanks and they stay in the water for weeks and months allowing the chemicals to seep out into the water.

Thank you guys for the replies. I am hoping for the best and going to throw away that AC 70 and just buy a new one and start over using aquarium safe silicone. It was a mistake letting the guy at home depot help me without consulting my LFS about the product first.

That's what I have observed reading this thread and will be doing from here on out.
