So i just came home and my tryee red watermelon was down to pure white scelatin on half of it. It had brownish mucus on it and when i brushed it off it was pure scelatin whats is wrong? all my other chalices are fine.

So im not sure where the slime came from but could that be the coral that did it? Also i cant think what would cause a single chalice to die half way other then a prediter so what wold eat a chalice? i only have two clowns and a tang in there.

It looks just like this not mine but the same exact thing

Im working on finding my cam cord to upload the pics

In his thread he said he put it in the water to acclamate it and pow this happened in a few mins. What could of stong it? i have nothing near it.....

if all your chalices are ok and only that and no one is next to it then its a mystery death ( like I call it ).. sometimes it happens for some reason...thing I could think of is light changes or maybe your fish took a bite and got stress.. anyway goodluck

Something stung it or bit it pretty good. It's the same response to being injured/stressed {Sometimes from shipping}. Almost like extreme and rapid recession, where the brown goo is decaying chalice flesh

Yea over 12 other chalice are fine. There is nothing closer then a inch. I know the tenticals come out but lights where on so i doubt they would have moved much. It has been in the same spot for about 4 months now with nothing changed to the system or anything for atleast 3 months and that was new bulbs. What should i do with the dead scelatin? cut it off or wait a few weeks to see if it comes back?

I had the exact same thing happen to an acan, so what I did was a water change, increased flow, and moved it a little bit closer to the light and it got better over the course of a week or so. Good Luck.

Has a clown or a tang ever taken a chunk our of a chalice? i have personaly seen my tang pick at a dieing shrimp, and i cant stick my hand in the tank with out the clowns nibbaling on me. They eat shrimp for a while and never turned back.

Also tonight is a feed night do you guys think i should try and feed the two eye's that are left?

After stress like that I don't think it would want to eat much. low light low flow and just keep an eye on it

Is there something different about the location of the tyree red wm from the others. Closer to the power head, more debris on the sand bed if any, under direct lighting? One time I changed my carbon pad, water cleared up, the light penetrated better and melted my zoa.

No i have a mountion rock which looks to have steps and it is on the second from the bottoms step but i have three chalices that are higher then it that are all fine. This boggles my mind since nothing has been changed for months now and i know all parameters are in line due to nothing else is weird and i know my sps would show the first sign somthing was wrong.

In that case, it shouldn't be debris. That would stay on the lower tier. Could it be current. Loose powerhead, changing the direction of flow? Added items blocking the flow? Clog return, slowing the flow? Can't be temperature, you will see it on your sps.

The peice is right below the powerhead where its been for four months i can't think of one thing that has changed in the past four months other then bulbs 3 months ago and i tweeked my skimmer last night.

Well i still hae 1/4 of it. I'm just hoping it comes back in hole in a few weeks due to thats what some people say. Ima leave the scelatin there. If in three weeks nothing ima cut and remount it.
