Hi all,

I built a stand for my 65 gallon tank a few years ago and everything is great. I made a door for it as well and at the time I was able to attach it(if I got it just right). The way I set it up was I believe a drawer sort of sliding system? Anyways now when I moved my tank I don’t have as much room to slide it on and off and would like to come up with something better.
I was thinking something like magnets or maybe even some sort of small hooks? I’ll show some pictures. The door of the stand is I believe like 1/4 inch plywood that I stained. Similar to the other 4 sides of my stand.

Magnets would be super easy if you went that way. What ever magnets you use just sink them below the surface a little so there is no gap between the stand and the door. You could even use magnetic roll tape.

Could you recommend any? Preferably from like a local chain store? Should I look for circular or another shape? Would they even be strong enough?

They are not supporting weight so they don't need to be real strong. You can try local but amazon or similar online might be easier. Just look up Neodymium magnets. The small round ones would be easiest to use. Don't get ones too strong or you will be jarring your tank getting your door off.

BTW they are also supposed to be rust proof and super thin so you could just super glue or epoxy them to the stand and the door. Something like these.
Strong Neodymium Disc Magnets (6 Pack) - 2X Stronger, 2X Thicker, Powerful, Small, Round, Rare Earth Magnets - N45 Industrial Strength NdFeB Magnet Set for Fridge, DIY, Crafts - 1.26" x 1/8"

French cleats might be your best bet in this situation, real easy to glue and screw them into the stand and glue them to the door panel..
These do sound interesting. Do you think I could slide it off with the cleats or just have to lift up? Silly questing I know!
Happy to see you here too Josh! Missed you buddy!

You would have to lift upwards, how high you have to lift is all depending on the angle you cut the cleats at. If it's shallow you might only have to lift up 1/4" to pop it off, deeper you could have to lift it upwards of an inch orso. Really up to you, however the deeper you go the tighter the panel will hold to the stand...

Lol I've been lurking around, I have about 20 or so threads I feebly attempt to follow and its darn near impossible!!!

You could slide them a bit, but lifting some would be required.

a couple of other ideas: put a cleat at on the inside of the door at the bottom that would rest in the edge of the stand opening, then use magnets to hold the top of the door against the stand.

I’ve also seen some people use drawer slides to slide doors back and forth. You have to have enough room on the sides, though.

This is how I did my stand for my 75 gallon...a ledge with a lip the bottom of the door fits into and magnets at the top. Simple works great and I can tear off the stand doors in about 10 seconds to get access to the whole space underneath.
