What are the cons and benefits between the 200 INT and EXT? I got offered a great deal on one, but they only have the INT model available. So I was wondering if I should hold out for the EXT or just settle with the INT.

Internal can be closer to the wall but, takes up in tank space. Mine is a internal corner and I hate the room it takes. External takes a lot less space in the tank but can't be right against the wall.

I got offered a brand new one and stand for 3500 CAD (including taxes and shipping) which is approximately 2700 USD. I just don't want to regret not getting the EXT, everyone seems to be saying that the EXT is better because of the extra tank space. How much space does the internal overflow take when compared to the external?

I have an ext. i will always go ext if given the chance from here on out!

What are your reasons if you don't mind me asking.
Sure! Sorry i probably should have figured you would want to know why! First i love that i have the entire depth of the tank to use, no maneuvering around the overflow. Next its very easy to clean and access the external overflow, no reaching down into the depths of the tank to clean it out. Next it was very easy to plumb. Add that all up with the fact that it really doesnt need to sit that much further out from the wall and im sold! Its just a really nice and clean why to design a tank.

Placing the tank against the wall is definitely not something I care about personally. Why does the internal decrease the depth of the tank, I figured it would decrease the width.

I just talked to the owner, he said that deal only applies to the INT. What do you guys think I should do?

This situation reminds me of when I was in high school, I really liked this one girl, but she didn't like me back. However, there was another girl that did like me so I settled with her because it's what I could get, not what I wanted. Same story here except it's a fish tank.

Great tank at FANTASTIC price. If it is new and defect free, I'd take it.

Yes, the INT make have about 2-3 inches less space from front-to-back than the EXT, but still a beautiful tank that a beautiful aquascape can be created in.

I went with 2 of the IM EXT versions.

They have the overflow on the back, but no pipes coming out of the bottom or loss of real estate inside the tank.

If the space behind the tank is a big deal, maybe try making a cover, like a spacer, for the sides (from floor up) to hide the overflow.

Yeah, I went for it. The price was just too good I couldn't say no.

Thanks for the help everyone. Here's a link to the build thread if anyone is interested.

By depth i meant width :p and i think youll be happy with the int. Sometimes you need to take what you can get, like highschool hah ;)

Yeah, I already sent the payment. No going back now. Either way this is a huge upgrade from the crappy Marineland 55-gallon I used to have when I was younger.
