i have 135g display on the main floor with 45g sump in a dedicated fish room in the basement. I am now in the market to purchase a new skimmer as the one I have is a cheapo unit. Tank is med to heavy stocked. Been looking at the Vertex 170I but it’s pricey and reviews aren’t that great. Room is not an issue.

Any suggestions.

I have a Vertex 180i. Love it. The only knock I have on it is the water level adjustment... a bit course. Other than that, skims great, excellent build quality, easy to keep clean, quiet, pulls muck, what's not to like?

Helped a friend set up his new Skimz Monster a few months back. Also an excellent quality skimmer.

Decided to go with Reef Octopus Elite 150 Int skimmer

I had a 150int on my 110 and it was a bit small with the ac pump. I put a DC pump on it and it was much better, but a little too small for my feeding habits. I upgraded to a 220int with a DC pump and have been very happy, though it's way over sized now.

Should I have gone with the 200 Elite internal?

The Elite line come with dc controllable pumps and it is rated for a 200g heavy bioload thought it might be just a touch to big so I decided on the 150

Excellent choice. I had a RO skimmer on my 100 gallon, and I'm running an Elite 200 S on my current tank. Great skimmers!

So I received the skimmer yesterday. I have to say the build quality of these skimmers are insane! But I think this 150 might be a little small for my tank. I’m going to give it a month or so to see how it performs. I also think I’m going to invest in the neck cleaner and remot collection cup. I believe that will help things run smooth with this set up.

Yea I think a 200 would be better for ya

I have close to the same amount of water as u

I have a regal 170 which they don’t make anymore but I added a varios four and that thing skims crazy now and that is perfect for the gallons

If u can go higher I would sir

Purchased an Aqua Excel for $180 and love it. Broke in quickly & skims great. They have 3 sizes, I have the smaller one on a 75. The look was cool too. My favorite part is the dc pump.

Good luck
