Hello guys and gals,
I need some help deciding on a upgrade for my return pump on my tank. I have a couple questions, I think I need more flow around my tank, would like to do it without adding a wavemaker
1. Would I need to upgrade both my intake and return pump?
2. what could I upgrade to without having to give my arm and a couple toes for?
I have upgraded t with the Intank media rack , tried to put a protein skimmer on the first chamber … but it would not work with putting the Intank media rack because they use the same wall to anchor to so I took the skimmer out.
The Tunz 9001 I have head mixed reviews on .. but of course that’s expensive. And yes I know everything in this hobby is expensive before I started. So I’m trying to do it a lil at a time.
I would love to upgrade to the Steve “s lights to my hood but good grief they are almost just as expensive as what the tank was. I need to keep the hood on because I have long coated German Shepherds and I would be all day getting hair out of the tank. So if anyone them for sale that reads this … help a chick out. lol.
Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated guys.
thank you
Ps I’m putting another thread up to ask about a Fluval Evo 5 gallon as well that I just bought . I haven’t set it up yet.

Hi there - you could upgrade your return pump for more flow, but you'd have to make sure that your overflow intake could accommodate it. I'm not familiar with the biocube's ratings. I would guess that while your overflow could handle a couple more hundred GPH for a larger return pump, that may not increase the flow enough for your needs - if you really need more flow. If some of the more expensive controllable DC return pumps are out of your budget (adjustable would be great for your application if you would need to tune it to your overflow) then Sicce is a good reliable brand as well and less expensive. You really don't want to skimp on the heart of your system, which is essentially what your return pump is. While I understand not wanting to add a pump to the tank, something like a Nero 3, or an MP10/40 are great solutions and reliable investments that can travel with you to your next tank upgrade, while offering significantly more flow, and variable flow, than a larger return pump could offer. Tank looks great BTW!

Thank you… your response makes sense .

Nice tank. Sicce 1.5 is adjustable, fits well and good price point. Will easily drive a rfg nozzle too

Agree with this. This is what I run in both of my 32s. One does have a small jaebo PH, but the other is rfg and sicce 1.5 only, since my angler is not to keen on a ton of flow. Not saying it does not have flow, but the rfg and 1.5 make things nice enough as they are for that tank.

What is RFG? Sorry I’m a newby

A better upgrade for your tank, instead of the bigger pump, and interior media basket is a good canister filter. This will achieve both ends at once.

I run a Fluval 306 on my 32g Bio-Cube. Gives me plenty of flow and superior mechanical, biological, and chemical filtration over the AIO setup as it came from the box.

Random Flow Generator.

Basically a diffuser that eliminates a steady stream or water from your return pump. Think of it as making the water return in a fan rather than a stream.

I was thinking of getting a dual nozzle to add for better directional flow. Would that work?
