Hi. I introduced a green carpet anemone to my 250g reef almost 4 weeks ago and so far he looks good. He immediately attached his foot to the glass beneath the gravel substrate and although he closes up frequently he also opens and expands out looking great frequently as well. I have two clowns that haven't found him yet, but one of the clowns bonded with a carpet in the past so I think he will eventually.
That being said, everything I read says that these carpets need supplemental feedings weekly... I've been trying to give him food, but he doesn't seem to take anything so far. I've tried small (penny size) cuts of shrimp, salmon and talapia. I've tried it just thawed and even warmed up... they naturally stick and then he just let's them go. I've tried wiggling the food around to make it feel like captured prey, but he ends up just letting it go.
I've even tried giving him the fish pellet food, but the boxer shrimp just pulls them off the anemone before he knows there there anyway.
Anyone have a suggestion as to how to feed these better? I had one when I was a little kid and I raised minnows in another aquarium for him and he loved them, but I do not have the space to set up a prey aquarium at this point.
Do I even need to be adding food??
Also, I've read that if a clown bonds with the anemone that you no longer need to give the anemone food directly.. is that correct?
