Need help figuring out HD video clips...

I got a Canon camera that shoots in 1080p and I have Sony Vegas Video to edit but I am lost.

1. How should I be shooting the vid as far as settings? 24p, 60i, 30, etc????

2. How do I get these high quality clips into the software and then onto youtube?

3. What should I be saving my clips at? What format? Mpeg4, AVI, etc?

HELP!!!

there are a ton of videos on YouTube on using it and how to save as hd. have not used Sony Vegas mostly adobe premiere. just keep in mind the longer you footage is the more item it take to update. i try to stay in the 2 to 3 min mark myself.

I too have overly complicated software that I don't know where to begin with (Adobe Premiere Pro CS4). So I hit up windows movie maker, it comes with vista and I think windows 7.

Very easy to use as there are not a million choices.

There are loads of freeware video converters, you will likely need to convert the video to windows media video format.

Shoot in the largest format your camera allows, probably 1080i with 30 fps. And use NTSC for the video system

Thanks Brett! I finally figured out how to get the HD to youtube thanks to killingseeds links and no thanks to the other kids in this thread. LOL!!

Youtube prefers progressive rather than interlaced video -- according to: File formats : Upload page - YouTube Help. You should shoot one of the 'p' video modes rather than something like 1080i.

30fps is what broadcast (ntsc) TV uses in the states, and 24fps is what filmmakers commonly use. It won't make a lot of difference over youtube and viewed on a monitor. If your software allows you to choose NTSC as a preset, shoot in 30fps (it's 29.97 fps, actually).
