I just bought a pump that works on 12v and needs 18-20amps. This pump is designed for boats and would be connected to its battery, but I want to connect it to an 115v outlet. I am having trouble to find a power source or transformer that would work with 18amps or more.

One of the ideas would be to use a fast battery charger like this.
Would this work?
Any other ideas?

Thank you.

18 amps at 12 volts will be a tough one and expensive if wanting to use a 120v transformer. Then have to rectify to dc.
Keeping a battery indoors on a charger can be dangerous

What about using something like these:

Is there anything else that I would need? The pump is 12v 18amp DC.
Thank you for your help.

Best way to do it large a.c. to dc converter using dry cells they act more like capacitors than batteries. Optima makes so we nice ones. I'd say2 u should be good.

Are u going to be running pump all the time?

No. Possibly a few hours at night, but more likely less than 30min.

Can you send me a link of what you are talking about? Thanks!

I think u would be fine if u just hooked it up to the type of thing i originally posted. You could even plug into a timer and have it come on when u like. U shouldnt even have to hook to battery

Go to west marine and get a power inverter

Yes I think it might be it. Thank you!

The ones I found were for 12v to 110v not the the other way around.

Why not just buy one of these? They're cheap and there is no need to mess with batteries.

Make sure that you account for voltage drop in selecting your wires between your power supply and the pump. Assuming that there will be about 10' between the two items, you'll want to use 8 AWG or a larger diameter; otherwise, the voltage drop will be too great and your pump may not operate correctly.

You are right. That is the cheapest option so far. I saw those when I first started looking. But just looking at the picture I could not figure how it worked, and was not sure if would work for my pump. I will try find more information on it.
Thank you.

There are lots of 12V power supplies out there that will do the trick. On reflection, I think that if it were me, I'd go with a 25A supply to give a bit of a cushion.

Yes. I agree. I went with a 30amp. This one.
