Last night I noticed that a small clump of my mean greens had zoa pox. They were on a little rock with a bunch of other colors that I was trying to make a rainbow of zoas with. I dipped the whole rock in a strong lugol's dip, scraped off the infected zoas and tossed them. I ordered Furan2 and set up my little 5 gallon. Do I need to treat ALL of my zoas now? Does it spread like that?

I would recommend giving the newly dipped pieces a little more flow than usual to stimulate response... if it was my own tank, I wouldn't dip the rest of the zoas... by the steps you took, I'm thinking you'll be okay... good luck and keep us posted.. :)

I would keep a really close eye on my other zoas. Zoa pox spreads very quickly, and furan is the only thing that will have an effect on getting rid of it. If it is not horribly difficult to dip all of your zoas, then that's what I would do. A furan dip and tank water for 15-20 minutes has worked wonders for me in the past, even without repeating as recommended. Good luck!

Thanks guys! I think I am going to dip as many as I can get out when the Furan gets here and then put them in the 5 gallon for a while. Does this affect palys, too?

Make sure you don't dip your palys because not only are they not affected by pox but it will make their survival questionable. As far as dipping the other zoas in your collection, I'm really not sure you would want to because the furan dip can be very harsh on these zoas but that's just my opinion. I would be inclined to keep an eye on them and dip accordingly.

Sorry but furan is NOT hard on zoas .If you do the dip with freshwater it is hard on them but I’ve left them in furan and tank water for 20+ min and had them open 10min after going back in the tank.

Honestly pox can be treated easily....

Separate the infected frags, give decent flow, good water quality, and leave them alone.

Phil, no offense but how can you say it is not harsh on zoas when you metioned in another thread that you had never used it. I was only stating my own personal experience. I used fresh water with the dips and perhaps that is the reason why some of my zoas have not done well with the dip but I can say that it was very effective on erradicating the zoa pox. Here is the link to the procedure that WhoDah recommends on Coralpedia.com:

pox

When I've used Tropic Marin procoral cure in the past for parasites it has actually worked well on pox too. I've left my zoos in that stuff for hours with no bad effects.

I havent used it but i know people who have and ive done a lot of reading on it. It was JMO, and thats all, i dont think its harsh on them at all, everyone i have seen use it never has lost any zoas. And dont worry i dont take offense ik i can be wrong some times :)

I know the PEs shouldn't be dipped but never having owned AoGs I'm not sure what they are classified as. Maybe someone else will speak up here :)

AOG's are Palys.....

I agree

Ive had luck in treating zoa pox just by moving the colony and increasing the flow:D
