Hi, welcome to Reef2Reef!

Tough to say what that is.

How long have you had the fish?
How long has it had that bump?
Is the blenny still feeding normally?
Could it have gotten poked by an urchin?
(that could have caused an abscess)

Jay

Appears to be an abscess which is a fluid filled area of skin which often self-corrects itself. There’s no real treatment besides add vitamins to proper foods and maintaining clean water environment to help it along.
What foods are you feeding?

@Jay Hemdal - Can you confirm abscess ?

I have had the fish for about six months and just noticed the bump today. The fish is still eating normally and I do have blue tuxedo in the tank with him.

I am currently broadcasting brine and mysis. I also throw in an algae pellet every other day for him.

It is probably an abscess. Catching the fish and popping it with a needle is one option, but not really a good one IMO....risk of capture damage and secondary infection. I would just observe it for now and if it grow larger, then perhaps consider that route.

My severum cichlid has had this exact problem for over a year now. It’s never once affected him.

we have a blenny with this same problem. It’s pretty big, I’m hoping I dont have to pop it…. I really don’t want to. But I guess I’d rather it be an abscess than something else… he’s acting pretty normal since this popped up a couple weeks ago.

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

From what I can see, the blenny has a pretty severe abscess. My concern is that it is located over vital organs. If it is a bacterial abscess and it reaches the gut, that could be fatal. Likewise, trying to pop an abscess in a location like that is dangerous.

How long has the blenny had this? It could also be a tumor. The fish looks good in other respects though.....

Jay

Thanks

Thanks for the warm welcome! And of course appreciate the help! It’s had it about 3 weeks now, still acting normal eating whatever it can get it’s mouth on. Lol. my wife and I are pretty new to the hobby (started our tank mid August) and are just unsure what to do if anything really… just wanna be good fishy parents.
