Red Sea XL 425 has been running about 8 months. Past couple of weeks I've noticed these white pod things in the sump. I don't see anything like it in the display.

Wondering if it's something I should be concerned about? Should I clean it up?

Thanks for any help.

looks like the usual, pineapple sponge and perhaps some other generic sponges. I assume they are soft to the touch.

Yes. Then actually do feel spongy. Should I clean it up?

I don't bother cleaning those areas, once it grows in, (think of it as a refugium space), it'll add pods to your system. In my areas like that, I have amphipods colonizing, which are invaluable in feeding my dragonettes. I also have micro feather dusters, (which also feeds my fish), amongst the myriad of other unidentified organisms. Think of it as if its a dark, "cave" ecosystem, which supplements your "sun" ecosystem. If sponges grow there, any non photosynthetic coral species will also grow there, ie sun coral, or if you have considered adding other ornamental sponges, which can be farmed. Think of the possibilities.
