Hi guys,

need some quick help. What kinda algae is this? I am assuming it’s cyano. I bought a cleaner package from reefcleaners that should arrive in a couple days. As long as it isn’t dangerous I don’t mind the look.

also I bought 2 of these clowns from a lfs here in Los Angeles. They said they are Picasso clowns. One died and now I’m trying to find a replacement. So 2 questions...1. Does it look like a Picasso to you? 2. Can I get a diff true percula like an onyx? They were together for 3 days until one got stuck in the rock holes.

thank you guys in advance 614FDBBB-9046-4CBC-A576-C44C19B2645D.jpeg B74E6840-4AC5-425C-B51C-8C017CE32CD1.jpeg

Callithamnion algae
Interested. Had never hear about this one before. But looks more branchy with sticks when I searched google. The ones I have are almost purple and very waivy.
+1, commonly called cotton candy algae. I think it actually is kind of pretty and very interesting! @Reefacist
@Soren i initially thought it was cotton candy too but from what I understood cotton candy was more like a ball bunched up. These are spotty and throughout the rock work. But I agree it looks nice but seems invasive.

I would bet cotton candy. They start really small like that then they kind of ball up. They look cool. But not always cool

Looks like a DaVinci clown to me which would be an occy. You can pair with any other type of occy or perc.

Healrhy fish don’t get stuck in rock holes, it was probably sick. Disease is common in this hobby.

He seemed healthy but who knows. Interesting. The store had it labeled as a Picasso but looking online at Picasso clowns, he looks a little diff. So you guys think it wouldn’t matter if I pick up another Picasso or davinci. Like they won’t kill one another?

Perc or occy won’t matter... sometimes clowns just don’t get along but that’s an individual thing. You just don’t want two females. Buying a juvi a bit smaller is usually a safe bet.

Agreed with @Tamberav . I think as long as you buy a clown that a little smaller than the one you have it should be fine. Same size = fighting to see how will be the female.

Thanks @Tamberav @Renescence ...that is good to know. My lfs told me not to buy a onyx becuase of compatibility. He assured me that one will die. My clown is Tony about an inch long so will be hard to find smaller but will definitely try. I’ll let u guys know what I pick up Monday and if they mesh well

Clowns do not care what pattern or color the other one has and percs and occys are close enough that they readily pair. Your LFS is silly.
