Hello all,

Can anyone tell me what kind of fish this is? Sorry I haven't been able to get a better pic but it's body is an orange color, his head is speckled white/grey and all fins top and bottom are like a black/white pattern and run the entire length of the fish .

Ill try to get better pics if I can catch him moving to a better spot.

What spot is he even in lol?

additional info: Was captured in a lobster trap here in the Florida Keys

Ok got a little better pic. Did I mention it looks like this fish has legs which it uses to move along the bottom. Oh and spikes on the top of his head.

Anyway here is the latest pic.

I don't recall the scientific name, but it is sometimes called a seaweed blenny. It is a small, peaceful, fish. Very personable. They will sometimes rock back and forth imitating seaweed.

Wow that is neat!!!

The genus is Paracinus. Individuals within the species are highly variable. It is likely that there are a few undescribed species lumped in. They are a very cool fish.

Thanks all. I still can't find any info on Paracinus anywhere. Is the spelling correct? A fish like this would certainly get lost in a reef tank. I think Ill have him taken back out to where he was found and set him free.

Sorry, I left a letter out of the genus, it's Paraclinus. There isn't a ton of info on them. I had a Pacific species a few years ago. They are described as being shy, but mine was very bold. Not a picky eater, ate any foods I offered. Veru peaceful, completely reef safe.

Man, there's no way I could part with that unique fish! I have had a 1.5" Yasha's goby in my 6 foot tank that was a great addition. I don't think he'll get lost in your reef tank!

Yea Ill keep him in quarantine fora couple months and decide. It's hard to find him even in that small 10 gal so I can't imagine finding him in my DT. Hes nearly an inch.
