Hello fellow reefers,
New to the forum and need some help with identifying some algae and how to get rid of it. I have read lots of great info and watched several videos but just cant seem to get this stuff to go away. My DT is a 125g with a 75g sump. I run biopellets through a reef octopus biochurn 120r ( 1.5 cups of pellets), and have a Eshoppes 200 cone skimmer. I run 3 AI hydra 26HD 8" above the water at 60% for 8hrs a day, settings are: UV60, V60, RY60, B60, G6, DR6 and CW30. I also change 1.5g of water a day through my apex DOS. I run rowaphos GFO and have even tried phospate RX. I have tested my RO and my new salt water and RO test 0 Po4 and new salt water tests around .01 P04

Reef parameters are:
No3-0
P04-.03 (measured using a Hanna phosphorus ULR)
DKH-8.3
Calc-425ppm
Mag-1600 ( little high but everything is happy)

To be honest I'm not sure what algae I'm dealing with, I've been told everything from hair algae, diotoms to turf algae. I don't get the typical algae film on the tank glass at all in fact I only clean the glass once a week and its just a little white cloudy looking. I have scrubbed rock to no end and no fish or snail will touch this stuff. If it helps It does seem to have a somewhat nasty smell to it. Sorry guys and gals I know this topic has been beat to death over and over but I really could use some direction.

Welcome to R2R!

I don't know exactly what kind of algae that is, but I have some similar algae on my rocks and my emerald crabs eat it like crazy. Let's get the #reefsquad to help you.

Welcome to R2R!

Can you possibly get a good close up pic under white lights?

Does the algae appear to be strands like hair or do they look like small ferns?

Here is another picture. The algae has the appearance of hair, no little ferns like bryopsis. As you can see this stuff is taking over fast.

I’m leaning towards turf algae.

I had it in my last tank, but not that wide spread.

Look up some pics of turf algae and see what you think.

I used fluconazole to beat it.
