My hammer coral has been receded the last week or so. I was looking around to see if I can find any visible reasons why and noticed this on the side of the hammer. Can anyone help identify what it is? Also, what about all the specs or egg liking patch on the side. Is that something I should be concerned with?

Flatworms they usually not specific to hammers; frogspawns, torches or grape corals are probably also on the menu.

Would get those eggs off, dip and qt any euphyilia corals.

Bayer or the uwc dip would be my choices for dipping

I’m using Coral RX. I was dipping the coral when I took the picture. How do I go about removing the eggs?

Flat worm. I've seen them quite a bit when running wild Euphyllia through quarantine. I would run it through a dip and try to remove any more if you find them. I don't believe what's on the side are eggs.

Scrape them with a scalpel or scrub them off. Also you can potentially use a stronger iodine dip if coral RX doesn't kill them.
Should I remove my other coral and dip them all also? And is there any type of fish that eats flatworms?

Halichoeres chrysus is one of my favorite fishes to keep in displays and quarantine systems for coral pest control, but most any wrasse from that Genus should help control their population. how long has it been in your system? it's likely they're already in there, just watch for them and pick them off when you see them. I've never had them directly harm Euphyllia they've been on.

I just noticed it today while sitting and looking at all the coral. I dip all the coral frags that I purchase prior to putting them into my tank. In the last two weeks, I started to notice and experience issues with my coral. The hammer stays closed the entire day. A few of the sps I have are starting to turn white at the base and are working their way up. My acans are not as full as they use to be. My montipora is also starting to peel off or bleach so to speak. My parameters are stable as I check them 2-3 times per week. From reading the threads, the only variable that I am questioning other then critters in the tank is my phosphate level which is .003ppm using a Hanna checker. People have commented how the tank water might be too clean.

How long has everything been running? Those big flatworms aren't causing those issues. Have you changed anything up lately?

I’ve only changed one thing. I failed to QT my fish when I purchased them so I had a case of the ich. So I had to remove my fish and run the tank fallow. So the tank would of ran fallow for 76 days this upcoming Sunday. Otherwise nothing has changed. My bi-weekly water changes are consistent. My parameters are cosistent. I can share those if you’d like. I even feed the tank like I would of the fish would be in the tank since the cleaner shrimp still feed on the mysis shrimp.

Your corals are definitely stressed, and i'm thinking it's from a lack of nutrients/food. Do you have any small particle foods you can feed until your fish get back in and can add poop again? (; phytoplankton, rotifers, cyclopoids, oyster eggs, powdered foods etc?

I failed to mention that I target feed most of the coral reef chili 2-3 times a week. Should I kick it up to once a day? Any other items I can purchase to help with nutrients?

That should be fine for them. There's something else going on then, there's really nothing else that has been changed just before this started happening?

My wife and I are banging our heads trying to figure out if anything changed in the display tank. Other than adding a frag here and there from WWC, nothing has happened. The display tank has been very quiet. I’ll post my parameters also.

Temp 78 degrees
1.025 Salinity
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 5ppm
PH 8.0
Calcium 450 (Red Sea test kit)
Magnesium 1450 (Red Sea test kit)
8.3 dkh (Hanna checker)
Phosphate .003ppm (Hanna checker)
