i just added my first acro about 3 hrs ago and it turned white, is this normal? Its an aquacultured strawberry shortcake 2" frag...i know that its not a good started frag but picked it up for $25...:squigglemouth: all parameters are up to par! have a nice mix reef and no problems anywhere else! the frag hasn't even see my lights yet (added it with the lights off). Did it die that quick? Im lost:wacko: can anyone one shed some light?

doesnt sound good...
are you sure it "turned" white? Not just looks diff due to water/daylight reflection, angle. etc?
are polyps out?
what were conditions it WAS in at your friends compared to what it is in NOW?

Wait until your lights come on before freaking out. If it looks white (loss of tissue) when you see it with the lights on then it is dead. Acros will tend to shift colors when added to a new system. Some will dull in brightness others will lighten. That said, some of my most colorful acros look dead when the lights are off.

My first sbsc flamed out they are super sensitive to alk changes. If its bleach white with lights on it gone. I did a 1.5 hr drip on my second try and it worked great.

yeah ... does it still have flesh? I would think it could have been the alk diff between your tank and his. I prefer to let my acro stay out of the water for a bit to get a nice slime going before I add to a different tank. I feel like the slime buffer protects from alk swings by making it hit the acro at a more diffuse rate. I may be way off base but I have never lost an acro to tank tranfers if I let it sit out of the water for 5 or so minutes before the transfer

Thank u guys! Ill get a photo as soon as lights come on...I drip acclimate for about 30mins and dipped in revive. I placed it in the tank near a good amount of flow and in a section where it will get about 200+ PAR but after I got home from gym last night I looked at it and it looked fully white, I kicked the lights on and it look pure white. :(

Did you dip it in Revive in the first place? If so for how long? I think its only for a couple minutes. I had an acro die on me when I gave it a dip in Revive "but it was on me for leaving it in too long." Now I just dip it for 5min tops. To me Revive is potent stuff, so if left in too long maybe that could be the reason?

It could have been the dip if it was longer than a few minutes. I got one of the same frags from Sonny last night and only dipped it for about five minutes.

Leave it in until it starts to grow algae, I've had corals bounce back from what looked like certain doom.
