i just recently set my custom built 225 up and the drain pipe is a lil too loud for my liking, i seen the thread on the hofer gurgle buster but dont know if i have enought room for it, i have a 2'' drain in the over flow box, over flow box is roughly 6'' x 10'' , the only problem is the trank is euro brace so there is a 2.5'' lip that is above the box, just looking for some help to make it a bit more quiet

Are you using a Durso? If so, do you have an air vent in the top cap?

Try tuning down your return pump a bit if you can. I tuned my return down to about 70-80%, it when from gurgling and sputtering to silent now.

i have tried doing a dorso but being since its a 2'' drain i dont have enough room for it, i am not really getting a slurping nose just the sound of water running in it, i will try to post some pics tonight, i have the drain pipe as close to the top as possible so the water doesnt fall as far and seems to be a bit better just would like to make it a bit quieter, i am not running a huge return pump its a mag drive 1200 on a 225 gallon tank

Look up the Herbie Method. Used it on my 187 and it's 100% silent. I thought it was to good to believe but it actually works perfect. You need to have at least two drain holes.

if you ahve a 2" drain, the only way you can do the Hofer gurgle buster is to use a 2 1/4 or 2 1/2" coupler over that 2" pipe. sounds like you are having issues getting under that lip on your tank. FWIW, I employ a pair of the Hoffer's on my 180 in each overflow. they work wonderfully and the only thing I hear is the water trickling over the overflow itself cause I made my standpipes a little short.

that is the main sound that i hear i the sound of the water coming over but dont really know if it is from the water going over the over flow or going down the drain. i tried the hofer last night but still get the same sound, i dont get the gurgling noise just the sound of water running over, so i guess i just need to put a lid over my drain box

Aim for the side of the toilet bowl.

Oh, you mean your tank's drain pipe!

Herbie or prior to Herbie it was called the 2-pipe method. I can not think of a better designed solution to battle noise.

If you want great growth and a good color combo from just the halide. Get a phenix 14k bulb. There spectrum are unlike any of the 14k series bulbs. If memory serves me right. Back when halides were the way to go some one did a test with the phenix series bulbs verses some othe good competitors and phenix growth and color won almost all there tests hands down. I remember the one thing everybody always couldn't get enough of was that color!also what is the hight in inches of the tank?
