So I just bought my first apartment and the landlord said I can have fish tanks. I got the bottom floor so that way I don’t gotta worry about my tank being upstairs and weighing a lot. I wanna place my tank in the spot in the pic. Only problem is there’s a heater against the wall on the ground. Is this a bad idea? Will it heat up my wires and equipment and fry it? Also it feels like there’s a floor under me maybe for maintenance or something. Should I be worried? I have 200 gallons of water sitting in one spot...?

You would have to contact the building manager for information regarding if there is anything under your floor.

Keeping your tank near a heater is fine. It won't get hot enough to destroy electronics and if you're worried about too much heat you can keep a couple inch gap so it isn't actually touching the heater.

Agreed that you should check w/ the landlord about what's underneath.

I would leave a little space in-between the stand and heater...maybe 6" or so.

What's the plan for the window?

I’ll keep the window shut. It’s either in there or in my bedroom. I emailed the landlord just waiting for her response

Awesome I got the heat set to 65 right now anyways. Not really sure how much everthing is going to cost so trying to run things as little as possible till I get my first bill

Natural sunlight will wreak havoc on your tank, so you should consider blackout curtains or something.
That’s what I meant. Keep the blinds shut. I’ll put something over the window not keep the window shut. I do have 2 large sliding glass doors not to far from that area so might be best to put in my bedroom. Just gotta get the gf to be okay with it

she might be worried that it will stink. i have a tank in my office and it doesn't smell at all. it's fantastic.

The new skimmer I won is awesome it doesn’t smell or anything. The old one I used to have smelt bad if you left it running for a week and didn’t clean it. My only concern is how loud the tank will be. My current tank is kinda loud so I wanna be able to find a way to quiet it. I do have a new ghost overflow so hopefully that’ll quiet it. Also my sump currently is on the side of my tank not under. So maybe if I place it under it’ll be much better

Other than what others said about weight, I'd be concerned the saltwater will corrode that baseboard heater. Would keep an eye on it and avoid as much spill/salt creep back there. Is there a way to turn it off and cover it with towel/rag?

I can look when I get home but I believe it’s all linked together so I can’t just turn off one heater. There are multiple ones throughout the house
