What going on everyone. I'll be starting in the next month or so getting everything to get this 100g tank going. I need alittle help with the plumbing; Idk if I should do a 3 hole drain system on the side of the tank. Also the hole size I should drill. The sides of the tank are 18' also so idk if 3 holes will work.

Have you check glass-holes.com or synergyreef.com? they have some decent kits.

Yeah I was thinking 1' but I don't know how much glass has to be between each hole before the glass will break or fold under pressure.

what should be the gph drain on a 100g tank.
It's suggested that you have 10x tank volume turnover per hour through your sump. Going off of that, two 3/4" drain pipes would suffice, but just barely. Personally I would use two 1" just to be safe with a third as an emergency drain. Have you looked into the bean animal overflow design? Seems like what you are shooting for.

yeah the problem I have is that my 100g tank is only 18' wide so idk if I could drill 3 for drain and 1 for return. I'm thinking about buying a new bottom piece of glass and 2 sides for 72x24x18.

Are you building the tank yourself? I don't know about yours, but a lot of tanks come with a tempered bottom pane of glass which makes drilling impossible. Also, is there a specific reason that you'd be drilling the side and not the back? If you do the back instead (it's where most drill) you will have all the space you need and more!

I got my tank from a guy I know and idk if all of the 3/4 glass is tempered. So by drilling the side I can replace that glass with little money due to the size and also the way its going to sit in my house. Why I asked the question is b/c I want around a 180 or 200g tank but I already have the 100g so. I could try to sell my 100g and 75g tank to get the 200g. idk

i'm not really building the tankl; I just have to take it all the way apart and reseal it. So while im there i'd like to get some options going.
