Hello guys, figured I would give an update on my tank! It's going Great, all of my levels are where they should be, so far no algae or unwanted events. Picked up a few more pieces of rock from my lfs and one of them has a feather duster stuck to it so they were forced to give it for free. What do I do about this guy? Wasnt really ready for a invert like this for a few more months or so. I also need some recommendations on what light to get. I screwed up and got the fluval aquasky led 2.0. Not reading the box completely just seeing that it was suitable for freshwater and saltwater but when I brought it home there was a little fine print saying for saltwater fish only tanks :/ I do want some soft corals and mushrooms. And down the line I would like to get a anemone for my 2 clowns I recently picked up. The tank is a 29g. I have no experience with corals so any help would be awesome. Thank you.

Welcome back to the hobby. That being said just watch your parameters and take it slow. please please please don’t get a anemone until your tank matures believe me you’ll be better off in the long run.i miss read your post and smile when I reread it and you said down the line that’s awesome and responsible reef keeping right there. As for lights look at a ai prime hd or a ai hydra 26 super user friendly and grow coral well.

Fluval lights aren't really going to be that great for corals or anemones. A more budget friendly option would be high output T5 bulbs, coralife is the only company that makes a 30" T5 fixture and bulbs that would fit on a 29 gallon tank. If you want something really nice check out the AI 26 led but it's a lot more expensive

I think we all love spending other peoples money. What is your budget?

Also, welcome to R2R, the people here will always help you get what will work best for you in your budget. Out of all the forums I have ever been on, this one does the best at staying in budget. We have all experienced the high cost of the hobby and respect what others are spending.

Budget isnt a huge issue, the cheaper the better but I realise that reef tanks require alot of time, money, and effort to get the best outcome possible. Maybe under $400 ideally around the $200 mark.

SB Reeflights or the AquaIllumination Hydra. Personally after using them the AI Hydras would be my first choice if budget allowed.

I do like those sb! What one would be my best bet for soft corals, mushrooms and a anemone In the near future?

Those are what I bought for my 90 gallon. I used to have the data for them. I know they are good enough for sps. If u get them run them at 30% white and 60 to 80% blue

Here's a pick of 1 just resting on top of my tank at 30% and 80%. No water in the tank yet

I have the 300w mars aqua. very pleased. I run it and another light

Do you have a sump or something else with more rock?

I do not :/ being only 29g I figured I would be ok without one. I am getting a protien skimmer though

Hmm for the price it looks awesome! I was looking at YouTube videos and reviews on it. I just plan on doing polyps, mushrooms, and a anemone at most. And maybe some other beginner corals nothing crazy.

I dunno sometimes it pays to spend on quality but maybe you are in that spot where a cheap black box might make functional and economic sense at least temporarily...either way research is cheaper that a purchasing mistake
