Guys,

Need your advice I have a 70 gallon reef tank, I have been using the NYOS 120 skimmer, I am not happy with the skimmer. Its been in my sump for a few months I finally was able to dial it in and it was working perfect for a whole week and today over filled the cup all the skimate back into my tank. I have not been successful with this skimmer. I have place it on a stand and lowered my water level to the lowest in my sump and it keeps overflowing. I really want to get a skimmer that is hassle free and I don't have to worry about an over flow. I do have an APEX controller. Any suggestions will be great..

Life reef skimmers are often regarded as the best of the best, and especially require the least tweaking, but the unfortunate truth is that at some point just about every skimmer out there will overflow the cup eventually. It's kind of avoidable with certain precautions but it'll happen

Yes I am aware that occasionally it can over flow but the NYOS Skimmer after 4 months of usage it has never skimmed correctly. I have tried everything it always over flows. It will work fine a few days then it over flows.

I read reviews when I went with my aqua Max c01 and won't look back best skimmer I've ever seen and set and forget.

aquamaxx are awesome as well.... I actually was using a ConeS CO-1 until I got a deal I couldnt pass up for the bubble king double cone 150. Aquamaxx is listed in the for sale forums if you have any interest, excellent set and forget skimmer. But I would still recommend looking at something like a bubble king if you want the best quality on the market, they are gorgeous !

Are you sure nothing changed in your tank(you used some epoxy to mount a frag or put in new filter socks without washing them first etc.) or you bumped the air adjustment? Skimmers don't simply all of the sudden do a mass overflow without something changing or the skimmer is faulty. I owned a Nyos 120 that I just upgraded to a 160 and I never adjusted it or never had overflows for 6 months straight. Never touched the thing except to rinse the collection cup.

Nothing has changed , haven't added anything. Feeding time it shuts off for 15 min after all my pumps turn back on so the water level should be the same . I haven't been able to make it skim correctly always over flowing last week was the first time it was skimming correctly dark skimate so for about 6 days no issue and today the 7th day over flow again back to the drawing board .
I don't like the fact I have to be lowering the water level every day

I hear good things about Bubba King. I went from a Coralife to a Reef Octopus and have not looked back. A suggestion a friend gave that help break the RC in was to soak the skimmer in a vinager mix (1 part vinager to 10 part water) for about 15 mins or so. After soaking it empty it but don't touch the inside. This broke my skimmer in within 24 hours.

Best I've used yet (beyond reef octo's and a couple other lesser brands) was the coral box one's from fish street.. Cheap as heck, and was quite the beast.
