I am getting ready to start my new tank build but am stuck on a return pump. The tank is around 167 gallons main display with around 40 in the sump and another 30 in the fuge. I am trying to figure out a good quite return pump either in sump or external. Not looking to break the bank on a return pump but somewhere around 300 would be my max. Any help would be appreciated.

I run a similar size setup, I use an Ehiem 1262, great pump, very reliable, but in my opinion it's pretty loud and has a lot of vibration. I dial it back to about 30%, I run very slow flow through my sump.

You might want to look into tunze silence and wasterblaster, too.

External is a good route to go if you can.
-PanWorld are very quiet
-Reeflo Dart are great pumps as well.
-MadFlo by Bashsea are monsters...

In sump, by all means the Eheim will get it done. I have the 1262 and it does vibrate but that's due to my plumbing. I have a mouse pad under it which helps but we'll see what happens later.

I vote Reeflo. My dart has been running on a 200+ gallon system for almost 10 years with no issues, no maintenance :)
