I went to local fish store an i guess u can say i was stupid for doing this (but i am new at this) i purchased a pink birds nest that was white with a little pink color. I asked the employee what was wrong with it an she said it was bleached an it will turn back to its original color wants its established in the tank. So me being as dumb as i am purchased it. When i got home i noticed in the middle of the birdsnest some of the branches were swollen an had some type of like a brown hair algea on it but dont think it is brown hair algea. I also noticed what looks like some type of small pod that was covered with this algea. Now most of the brown hair like substace is gonr thanks to my tiny hermit crabs. I really would like to nurse back to health but do not have a clue even where to start. Please help me figure this out.

Frag off the branches and hope for the best. I've found that my bird's nest will typically not grow back onto it's skeleton. The hermits will also irritate the coral which is the last thing it needs right now.

Agreed frag the healthiest part of the coral but be sure to frag (cut) the coral where the tissue is gone so less stress for the coral and you then have a "dead part" of the Birdsnest that can be glued to a small rubble rock!!
Can you post a pick? I've fathered my Birdsnests back before!! So I have faith in that coral, and I'm not gonna lie I actually buy some corals at my LFS if I see they aren't doing so well or starting to bleach!! Nothing that coral Dip, and a good healthy reef can't fix!! I have had some corals die but hey it was worth a try??

Here is a few pics thanks for helping me

For bird's nest you can probably use your hands, although I would recommend investing in a pair of bone cutters. I would try to get as close to the healthy tissue as possible. The white parts are useless.

If white with no polyps they are done for, sorry, you can cut those off!! if it's still pinkish under that algae you may be able to use a SOFT toothbrush and clean it off!! And the reason why that algae is on the Birdsnest is because you need high flow passing in between and around the coral to be sure diatoms don't cover them!! Hope that helps!! And good luck!!

Thank you for the information I will try the tooth brush on it some of the white still has polyps on it. My tank has good flow I bought the coral like this the store I bought it from had the coral in a cup and I didn't see the brown spots until I was home. Well I have learned my lesson lol.

Could also just try setting little fraq bits here and there on the rocks, and see if they catch on. If not they'll just become part of the sand.
