i bought a 2 polyp plug of utter chaos 10 days ago and they have been fine until yesterday . they have been closed up for the last two days and one of them looks to be expelling zooxanthelle or taking a potty break. i am not sure which it is. i run a kessil a160we with a 3 hour ramp up to 50% intensity and hold for 6 hours and then a 3 hour ramp down. i adjusted the max intensity down to 40 percent but i am not sure if i am doing the correct thing. i also keep the color at zero. thanks for any help. the tank is a 20 gallon long and the lamp sits 9 inches off the water.

hi ,did you dip? post pics, check salinity?

How deep is the tank, what lighting, how high is lighting? So they are spitting up but not closing up. I'm guessing too much light but not sure.

you mention these are the only coral in the tank... how long has the tank been setup? Salinity is spot on. You did your dip, great job. This happens to me too. Sometimes zoas are temperamental for no reason. The 6 hr ramp time at 40 percent might be aggrevating it based on it being new and trying to adjust to your lights. I personally don't think 2 days is enough time to worry just yet. It would be super helpful if you had a pic though.

the tank has been up and running for 8 months. i had the intensity ramp up to 50% and hold for 6 hours but i turned it back to 40% yesterday. i will work on a pic today. thanks for every ones help.

Usually that happens when they arent happy with the light. Maybe leave light where it's at but put them in a lower light area of the tank til they adjust to your water parameters as they most likely are at least slightly different.
